Crispy Potato Cheese Balls transform humble boiled potatoes into golden, cheesy perfection with a shatteringly crisp breadcrumb crust and molten cheese center.

Ingredients

  • Boiled potatoes Cornstarch (or flour) Whole egg (for the potato mixture) Seasonings (salt, pepper, spices) Cheese blocks (such as mozzarella or melting cheese)
  • cut into cubes Beaten eggs (for the coating) Breadcrumbs Cooking oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Mash the base: Place the boiled potatoes into a bowl and mash them until broken down and softened. Make the dough: Add the cornstarch
  2. whole egg
  3. and seasonings to the mashed potatoes. Mix thoroughly by hand until a workable dough forms. Stuff and shape: Take a portion of the potato dough
  4. flatten it in your palm
  5. place a cube of cheese in the center
  6. wrap the dough completely around it
  7. and roll it between your palms into a smooth ball. Bread the balls: Dip each ball into the bowl of beaten egg until fully coated
  8. then roll it in the breadcrumbs until evenly covered. Fry: Gently place the breaded balls into hot oil and fry until they are golden-brown and crispy all around. Serve: Remove from the oil
  9. let drain briefly
  10. and break open while hot for the melted cheese pull.

Notes

  • Dry boiled potatoes thoroughly on a clean towel before mashing to prevent sticky dough.
  • Do not overwork the dough; mix just until combined for a light texture.
  • Seal dough completely around each cheese cube to prevent leaking during frying.
  • Maintain oil temperature at 350°F (175°C) and avoid crowding the pot.
  • Bread balls immediately after egg wash so the coating adheres properly.
  • Drain finished balls on a wire cooling rack rather than paper towels to preserve crispness.
