Crispy Ham & Cheese Potato Patties turn everyday boiled potatoes into a golden, savory delight. Warm, fluffy mash meets diced ham and melting cheese inside a shattering breadcrumb crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 600 g boiled potatoes
  • peeled 120 g cooked ham
  • diced 100 g shredded melting cheese (cheddar or mozzarella) Salt and freshly ground black pepper (to taste) Golden breadcrumbs or panko (for coating) Cooking oil (for frying) Fresh parsley
  • finely chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Mash the Potatoes: Place the warm
  2. peeled potatoes into a large mixing bowl and mash thoroughly with a potato masher until smooth and fluffy. Add Fillings & Seasoning: Season with salt and black pepper to taste
  3. then add the diced ham and shredded cheese. Combine: Use a wooden spoon or spatula to mix everything until evenly distributed throughout the mashed potatoes. Shape the Patties: Scoop out portions of the mixture
  4. roll them into balls
  5. and gently flatten them with your hands into thick
  6. round discs. Bread: Coat each patty evenly on all sides in breadcrumbs. Pan-Fry: Heat a generous splash of cooking oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the patties for 3 to 4 minutes per side until crisp and deeply golden-brown. Garnish & Serve: Sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley and serve immediately while the cheese is hot and gooey.

Notes

  • Always use warm boiled potatoes; cold potatoes mash unevenly and turn gluey.
  • Fold the mixture gently; overmixing develops starch and creates dense patties.
  • Let shaped patties rest for five minutes before breading so they hold together in the skillet.
  • Fry in batches; crowding the skillet drops oil temperature and causes soggy crusts.
  • Use generous oil; a thin layer dries out breadcrumbs before they turn golden.
