A quick and vibrant cranberry side dish made with fresh cranberries, sugar, and citrus zest. Perfect for holidays or adding a sweet-tart twist to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Set your stovetop to medium heat and grab a medium saucepan.
  2. Add the cranberries, sugar, water, and salt to the pot. Stir gently to combine.
  3. Make sure your saucepan is large enough so the mixture doesn’t boil over as it simmers.
  4. Place the pot on the heat and let the sugar dissolve, stirring occasionally.
  5. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes until most cranberries have popped and the sauce thickens.
  6. Stir in orange zest if using. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  7. Once cooled, transfer to a serving dish or jar. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Notes

  • For a smoother texture, mash some cranberries while cooking.
  • Add spices like cinnamon or clove for extra warmth.
  • Use leftovers in sandwiches or baked goods.
