Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup butter (softened, for frosting)
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • 23 tablespoons milk or cream
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder (plus more for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8 pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk melted butter with granulated and brown sugar. Add eggs and vanilla, mix until smooth.
  3. Stir in flour, cocoa powder, cinnamon, cayenne, and salt until just combined.
  4. Spread batter into prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes. Let cool completely in the pan.
  5. For the frosting, beat softened butter until fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla, and milk until smooth. Mix in chili powder.
  6. Spread frosting evenly over cooled brownies and dust with more chili powder if desired.
  7. Chill for 30 minutes before slicing into squares and serving.

Notes

  • Use parchment paper for easy removal and clean edges.
  • Adjust spice level to taste — start mild and add gradually.
  • Let brownies cool completely before frosting.
  • Store in the fridge for a firmer texture or at room temp for softness.
