Spanish Coffee is a cozy cocktail made with bold coffee, coffee liqueur, and dark rum, all topped with a fluffy cloud of whipped cream and a dusting of spice. It’s warm, rich, and perfect for after-dinner sipping or a special weekend treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 oz coffee liqueur (such as Kahlúa)
  • 1/2 oz dark rum (or brandy)
  • 1 cup strong hot coffee
  • Whipped cream (lightly whipped)
  • Freshly grated nutmeg or chocolate shavings (optional)
  • Granulated sugar (for rim, optional)

Instructions

  1. If desired, rim your glass with sugar by moistening the edge and dipping it into granulated sugar.
  2. Preheat the glass by filling it with hot water for 30 seconds, then empty it.
  3. Pour coffee liqueur and dark rum into the warm glass.
  4. Add the hot brewed coffee.
  5. Top carefully with whipped cream by spooning it gently over the back of a spoon.
  6. Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg or chocolate if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use strong, freshly brewed coffee for the best flavor.
  • Soft peak whipped cream floats best—avoid overwhipping.
  • Try using decaf if you want to enjoy it in the evening without caffeine.
