This classic shrimp cocktail recipe is light, refreshing, and perfect for any occasion. Juicy shrimp are served chilled with a bold, zesty homemade cocktail sauce and lemon wedges.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined, tails on
  • 1 tablespoon salt (for boiling)
  • 1 lemon, sliced (for boiling and garnish)
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon horseradish
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Celery leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Fill a pot with water, add salt and sliced lemon, and bring to a boil.
  2. Add shrimp and cook for 2–3 minutes until pink and opaque.
  3. Transfer shrimp to an ice bath to chill completely. Drain and pat dry.
  4. Mix ketchup, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, and lemon juice in a bowl. Chill until serving.
  5. Arrange shrimp over crushed ice on a platter with lemon wedges and celery leaves.
  6. Place cocktail sauce in a bowl in the center and serve cold.

Notes

  • Use large or jumbo shrimp for best presentation.
  • Don’t overcook shrimp — they should be firm and pink.
  • Prep both the shrimp and sauce ahead to save time.
