Flaky puff pastry filled with sweet-tart cherry filling and topped with a vanilla glaze — this Shortcut Cherry Danish delivers bakery-style flavor in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

  • Puff Pastry Sheets: 1 package (2 sheets), thawed
  • Cherry Pie Filling: 1 cup
  • Vegan Cream Cheese (optional): ¼ cup
  • Powdered Sugar: ¾ cup
  • Vanilla Extract: ½ teaspoon
  • Non-Dairy Milk: 1–2 tablespoons
  • Plant-Based Milk or Egg Wash: 2 tablespoons
  • Lemon Zest (optional): ½ teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Equipment: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Thaw puff pastry in the fridge. If using cream cheese, mix it until smooth. Whisk powdered sugar, vanilla, and non-dairy milk to create glaze.
  3. Prepare Your Cooking Vessel: Unfold puff pastry on a floured surface. Cut each sheet into 4 squares (total of 8).
  4. Assemble the Dish: Spread cream cheese on each square (optional), top with cherry filling, fold edges or create pinwheel shapes. Brush edges with plant milk.
  5. Cook to Perfection: Bake for 15–18 minutes until puffed and golden.
  6. Finishing Touches: Cool slightly, then drizzle with glaze and optional lemon zest.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Serve warm or at room temperature. Best fresh, but can be reheated.

Notes

  • Work with chilled puff pastry for easier shaping.
  • Chill assembled danishes for 5 minutes before baking for flakier results.
  • Use whole fruit filling for the best texture.
  • Reheat leftovers in toaster oven for crispness.
