Polish Potato Pancakes

Polish Potato Pancakes (Placki Ziemniaczane) are crispy on the outside and tender inside, made with grated potatoes, onion, and simple seasonings. A comforting dish served with sour cream or applesauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and grated
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Grate potatoes and onion, then squeeze out excess liquid using a clean towel.
  2. In a bowl, combine grated potatoes, onion, eggs, flour, salt, and pepper. Mix until combined.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Spoon batter into the skillet, flattening slightly to form pancakes.
  5. Fry until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  6. Drain on paper towels and serve warm with sour cream or applesauce.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, fry in small batches without overcrowding the pan.
  • You can add a pinch of baking powder for fluffier pancakes.
