A decadent chocolate sponge cake infused with nostalgic malted milk flavor, topped with a silky malt frosting and crunchy Malteser chocolates.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup malted milk powder
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large bag Maltesers

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease two 8-inch cake pans.
  2. Whisk flour, cocoa, sugar, baking powder, and malted milk powder in a large bowl.
  3. Add butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  4. Divide batter between pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  5. Cool completely, then frost with malted buttercream and decorate with Maltesers.

Notes

  • Sift the malt powder to avoid lumps in the frosting.
  • Add Maltesers just before serving to keep them crunchy.
  • Room temperature eggs and milk ensure a smoother batter.
