Ingredients

  • All-Purpose Flour: 1 1/2 cups, provides structure for the sponge
  • Baking Powder: 2 teaspoons, ensures tender rise
  • Salt: 1/4 teaspoon, balances sweetness
  • Unsalted Butter: 1/2 cup, softened, adds richness
  • Granulated Sugar: 1 cup, sweetens and enhances browning
  • Eggs: 2 large, bind ingredients and enrich texture
  • Lemon Zest: 2 teaspoons, bright citrus flavor
  • Lemon Juice: 1/4 cup, adds moisture and tang
  • Powdered Sugar: 1/2 cup, for the lemon glaze icing

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a square baking pan with parchment paper
  2. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy, add eggs one at a time, then fold in lemon zest and juice
  3. Gradually fold in flour, baking powder, and salt until smooth
  4. Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth top evenly
  5. Bake 25-30 minutes until a skewer comes out clean
  6. Mix powdered sugar with lemon juice for glaze and pour over slightly warm slices, let set
  7. Cut into slices and serve or store in an airtight container
