- All-Purpose Flour: 1 1/2 cups, provides structure for the sponge
- Baking Powder: 2 teaspoons, ensures tender rise
- Salt: 1/4 teaspoon, balances sweetness
- Unsalted Butter: 1/2 cup, softened, adds richness
- Granulated Sugar: 1 cup, sweetens and enhances browning
- Eggs: 2 large, bind ingredients and enrich texture
- Lemon Zest: 2 teaspoons, bright citrus flavor
- Lemon Juice: 1/4 cup, adds moisture and tang
- Powdered Sugar: 1/2 cup, for the lemon glaze icing
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a square baking pan with parchment paper
- Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy, add eggs one at a time, then fold in lemon zest and juice
- Gradually fold in flour, baking powder, and salt until smooth
- Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth top evenly
- Bake 25-30 minutes until a skewer comes out clean
- Mix powdered sugar with lemon juice for glaze and pour over slightly warm slices, let set
