Garlic Ginger Bok Choy Stir-Fry

A quick, flavorful stir-fry starring baby bok choy infused with garlic and ginger in a savory soy-based sauce—ready in just 15 minutes.

Ingredients

  • Baby Bok Choy: 1 pound – The star of the dish, offering a sweet, mild flavor and tender crunch.
  • Garlic: 4 cloves, finely minced – Delivers bold, aromatic flavor that infuses the oil.
  • Fresh Ginger: 1 tablespoon, minced or grated – Adds warmth and a touch of heat.
  • Soy Sauce: 2 tablespoons – Brings salty umami depth to the stir-fry.
  • Sesame Oil: 1 teaspoon – Finishing touch for nutty aroma and richness.
  • Vegetable Oil: 1 tablespoon – For high-heat cooking without overpowering flavor.
  • Rice Vinegar: 1 teaspoon – Adds brightness and a subtle tang.
  • Sugar: 1/2 teaspoon – Balances the salt and acidity.
  • Red Pepper Flakes (Optional): 1/4 teaspoon – For a gentle kick of heat.
  • Salt: to taste – Fine-tunes the overall balance.

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Equipment: Heat a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and optional red pepper flakes.
  3. Prepare Your Cooking Vessel: Add vegetable oil to the hot wok, then stir in garlic and ginger. Let them sizzle gently to release their aroma.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Add bok choy to the pan, tossing to coat in the infused oil and aromatics.
  5. Cook to Perfection: Stir-fry for 3–5 minutes, or until the stems are tender-crisp and leaves are wilted but still bright.
  6. Finishing Touches: Pour in the soy sauce mixture and stir to coat. Drizzle with sesame oil and adjust salt if needed.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Serve immediately while hot, either as a side dish or over rice or noodles.

Notes

  • Slice stems and leaves separately for even cooking.
  • Start garlic and ginger in cool oil to avoid burning.
  • Add a splash of broth for steam if needed.
  • Double the sauce if you like it extra saucy.
