These garlic butter baked scallops are tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Easy to prepare yet elegant enough for any occasion, they’re baked to perfection in a luscious garlic-lemon butter sauce and finished with a crispy breadcrumb topping.

Ingredients

  • Sea Scallops: 1 ½ pounds, large and fresh (or thawed from frozen)
  • Unsalted Butter: 6 tablespoons, melted
  • Garlic: 4 cloves, finely minced
  • Lemon Juice: 2 tablespoons, freshly squeezed
  • Lemon Zest: 1 teaspoon
  • Breadcrumbs: ⅓ cup, preferably panko
  • Parsley: 2 tablespoons, finely chopped
  • Salt: ½ teaspoon
  • Black Pepper: ¼ teaspoon, freshly ground
  • Paprika: ¼ teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Equipment: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Position the oven rack in the middle.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a bowl, mix the melted butter, minced garlic, lemon juice, lemon zest, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  3. Prepare Your Cooking Vessel: Lightly grease a shallow baking dish. Pat scallops dry and arrange in a single layer.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Pour the garlic butter mixture over the scallops. Top with breadcrumbs and chopped parsley.
  5. Cook to Perfection: Bake for 15 minutes until opaque. Broil for 2 minutes to get a golden topping.
  6. Finishing Touches: Let rest for 2 minutes. Optionally squeeze fresh lemon juice on top.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Serve hot with bread, pasta, or salad. Garnish with extra herbs if desired.

Notes

  • Use fresh or fully thawed scallops and dry them well before cooking.
  • Opt for European-style butter for richer flavor.
  • Don’t skip the broiling step for a golden, crisp topping.
