Fluffy Homemade Bread

A soft, pillowy loaf of homemade bread with a golden crust and tender crumb. Perfect for sandwiches, toast, or simply enjoyed warm with butter.

Ingredients

  • 3½ cups all-purpose or bread flour
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • ½ cup warm water
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons salt
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Lightly grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water and milk. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Add melted butter, egg, and salt. Stir in flour gradually until dough forms.
  4. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down dough, shape into a loaf, and place in prepared pan. Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden and loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
  8. Brush with melted butter after baking, cool slightly, then slice and serve.

Notes

  • Use bread flour for extra structure and fluffiness.
  • Chill the dough overnight in the fridge for slow fermentation and deeper flavor.
  • Add seeds or herbs to the dough for variety.
