Ingredients

  • Cream Cheese: 8 oz, softened
  • Granulated Sugar: 1/4 cup
  • Vanilla Extract: 1 teaspoon
  • Fresh Strawberries: 1/2 cup, finely chopped
  • Powdered Sugar: for dusting
  • Wonton Wrappers: about 20
  • Egg: 1, beaten
  • Vegetable Oil: for frying

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Equipment: Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F. Line a plate with paper towels for draining later.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a bowl, beat together softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Gently fold in the chopped strawberries.
  3. Prepare Your Cooking Vessel: Make sure your frying pan is deep enough to submerge the wontons. Maintain oil heat at 350°F.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Place a small spoonful of filling in the center of each wonton wrapper. Brush edges with egg wash, fold diagonally into a triangle, and press to seal tightly.
  5. Cook to Perfection: Fry in batches for about 1-2 minutes per side or until golden brown. Don’t overcrowd the pan.
  6. Finishing Touches: Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Dust with powdered sugar.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Serve warm with extra strawberries or a side of whipped cream or strawberry jam.

Notes

  • Chill filled wontons before frying to help them hold shape.
  • Use a thermometer to monitor oil temperature consistently.
  • Seal edges well to avoid leaks.
  • Don’t overfill wrappers.
