Ingredients

  • Flour: 2 ½ cups – Provides structure for the cake.
  • Granulated Sugar: 1 ½ cups – Sweetens the cake.
  • Baking Powder: 2 tsp – Helps the cake rise to a perfect, soft texture.
  • Cocoa Powder: ¾ cup – Adds depth and richness to the cake’s flavor.
  • Butter: 1 cup (softened) – Gives moisture and a soft texture to the cake.
  • Eggs: 3 large – Acts as the binder for the cake.
  • Milk: 1 cup – Keeps the cake moist and adds tenderness.
  • Vanilla Extract: 1 tsp – Enhances the flavor.
  • Fresh Strawberries: 1 ½ cups – Blended into the buttercream for a fresh, fruity flavor.
  • Powdered Sugar: 3 ½ cups – For the smooth texture of the strawberry buttercream.
  • Heavy Cream: 1 cup – Used for making the chocolate ganache.

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Equipment: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your cake pans with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Add in the wet ingredients: butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla. Mix until combined.
  3. Prepare Your Cooking Vessel: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pans, smoothing the tops with a spatula.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. Cook to Perfection: Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Finishing Touches: While the cakes cool, prepare the strawberry buttercream by whipping together the softened butter, powdered sugar, and fresh strawberry puree. Then, make the chocolate ganache by heating the cream and mixing it with chopped chocolate.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Layer the cooled cakes, spreading frosting between each layer, then drizzle the chocolate ganache over the top and let it drip down the sides. Top with decorative rosettes of frosting, and your cake is ready to serve!

Notes

  • For an even more intense chocolate flavor, add a bit of espresso powder to the cake batter.
  • Make sure the frosting is at room temperature when spreading it on the cake to avoid a lumpy texture.
  • To avoid a crumbly cake when frosting, chill the cake layers for 20 minutes before applying the buttercream.
