Miniature bites of fall bliss, these Caramel Apple Dessert Cups combine tart apples, buttery crumble, and gooey caramel into the perfect hand-held treat. Easy to make, irresistibly delicious, and ideal for sharing.

Ingredients

  • Apples: 3 medium (Granny Smith preferred), peeled and diced, offer tartness and juicy bite
  • Butter: ½ cup (1 stick), unsalted and melted, used for both crust and filling
  • Brown Sugar: ½ cup, brings molasses-rich sweetness to the mix
  • Granulated Sugar: ¼ cup, balances the depth of brown sugar
  • Cinnamon: 1 teaspoon, classic warming spice for apple desserts
  • Nutmeg: ¼ teaspoon, adds a subtle cozy note
  • Salt: ¼ teaspoon, enhances sweetness and balances flavors
  • All-Purpose Flour: 1 cup, base for the crust and topping
  • Rolled Oats: ½ cup, gives texture and rustic charm to the topping
  • Vanilla Extract: 1 teaspoon, adds warmth and richness
  • Soft Caramels: 12 pieces, melted for that gooey caramel layer
  • Milk or Cream: 2 tablespoons, to help melt the caramels smoothly

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Equipment: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 12-cup muffin tin or line with paper liners.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine diced apples, 2 tablespoons melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Stir and cook in a saucepan over medium heat for 5–7 minutes until apples soften.
  3. Prepare Your Cooking Vessel: In another bowl, mix flour, oats, granulated sugar, salt, and remaining melted butter to create a crumbly dough. Press about 1 tablespoon of mixture into the bottom of each muffin cup to form a base.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Spoon the apple filling evenly into each cup. Melt the caramels with milk in the microwave or saucepan, stirring until smooth, and drizzle over the apples. Sprinkle remaining oat mixture on top as a crumble.
  5. Cook to Perfection: Bake for 20–25 minutes until tops are golden and caramel bubbles. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
  6. Finishing Touches: Gently remove from pan and place on a wire rack. Let cool completely or serve warm.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Top with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.

Notes

  • Use tart apples to balance the sweet caramel.
  • Let cool before removing to keep structure intact.
  • Add chopped pecans or walnuts for a nutty crunch.
  • Line tins with parchment cups for easy cleanup.
