Ingredients

  • All-Purpose Flour: 2 cups
  • Granulated Sugar: ¾ cup
  • Brown Sugar: ½ cup
  • Baking Powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Baking Soda: ½ teaspoon
  • Salt: ½ teaspoon
  • Ground Cinnamon: 1½ teaspoons
  • Ground Nutmeg: ¼ teaspoon
  • Eggs: 2 large
  • Buttermilk: ¾ cup
  • Vegetable Oil: ½ cup
  • Vanilla Extract: 2 teaspoons
  • Apples: 2 cups (peeled, cored, diced)
  • Caramel Sauce: ½ cup

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Equipment: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×5 inch loaf pan with parchment paper or grease lightly.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugars, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. In another bowl, beat eggs, then mix in buttermilk, oil, and vanilla. Combine wet and dry ingredients gently, then fold in apples.
  3. Prepare Your Cooking Vessel: Pour half the batter into the loaf pan. Drizzle half the caramel. Add the rest of the batter and drizzle remaining caramel. Swirl gently.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Tap the pan to settle the batter evenly.
  5. Cook to Perfection: Bake for 55–65 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Tent with foil if the top browns too fast.
  6. Finishing Touches: Let cool 15 minutes in pan, then transfer to wire rack. Drizzle with extra caramel once cooled.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for best flavor contrast.
  • Let bread cool completely before slicing for clean cuts.
